In this post, I wanted to talk about one of the coolest neighbourhoods in St. Joh’s - Quidi Vidi Village!
Location
The village is located on the east end of St. John’s adjacent to Quidi Vidi lake with its own harbour, known locally as ‘the gut’.
Real Estate
The real estate in this area is a mix of older homes, newer townhomes, and large executive properties overlooking the water. It has a real community feel and is a great place to live or buy an investment property especially if you are interested in short-term rentals. However, it is rare for properties to come up for sale as it is highly sought after. Due to the wide range of homes, it is difficult to provide meaningful stats on property values in this area.
Local places
If you find yourself in the village, here are some cool places you should drop in to:
The plantation: This is an amazing building and I love the architecture and decor of the place. The building sits on the harbour and has workshop spaces for local artists to create and sell their work. You can always find something unique and interesting at the plantation, and it is a great place to support local talent.
Mallard Cottage: This is a beautiful restaurant set up in an 18th-century cottage and has a cozy and rustic vibe. They also serve locally sourced seasonal meals.
Quidi Vidi Brewery: This is the largest craft brewery and is situated in the harbour. The taproom is spectacular and feels cozy when they decorate it for the winter. You can either go there to enjoy a pint, or even catch a concert.
Quidi Vidi Fish and Chips: They serve fish caught right in the harbour and it’s super tasty.
Linda’s Inne of Olde: This is one of the coolest and most unique pubs in the city. It has a lot of character and Linda is an absolute legend. It is worth visiting the place just to have a chat with her.
The Wharf at Quidi Vidi: This is a recent development and is amazing. In the summertime, the wharf is open to a beer garden and food trucks and is a great place to meet up with friends for a drink and some food and enjoy the sun (or fog) and view.
Sugar Loaf Path: This is a part of the East Coast Trail and there is something magical about walking down to the village on an east end foggy day and wandering up the Sugar Loaf path to take in the view of the village.
Quidi Vidi Charters: This is a local tour company and they offer sightseeing and fishing tours and leave right from the harbour.
If you are looking for more information on any neighbourhoods in St. John's, get in touch. Also, if you are thinking of selling or buying, get in touch and we can set up a no-obligation meeting to discuss the best way forward. I will guide you through the details of these steps and more based on your current needs.
