Location
The village sits on the east end of St. John’s, adjacent to Quidi Vidi Lake, with its own harbour known locally as ‘the gut’.
Real estate
The real estate here is a mix of older homes, newer townhomes, and large executive properties overlooking the water. It has a real community feel and is a great place to live or to buy an investment property — especially if you’re interested in short-term rentals. That said, it’s rare for properties to come up for sale, as the area is highly sought after. Because of the wide range of homes, it’s difficult to give meaningful stats on property values here.
Local places to drop in
The Plantation — An amazing building with architecture and decor I love. It sits on the harbour and has workshop spaces where local artists create and sell their work. You can always find something unique, and it’s a great place to support local talent.
Mallard Cottage — A beautiful restaurant in an 18th-century cottage with a cozy, rustic vibe, serving locally sourced seasonal meals.
Quidi Vidi Brewery — The largest craft brewery, right in the harbour. The taproom is spectacular and feels especially cozy decorated for winter — go for a pint or catch a concert.
Quidi Vidi Fish & Chips — They serve fish caught right in the harbour, and it’s super tasty.
Linda’s Inne of Olde — One of the coolest, most unique pubs in the city, full of character. Owner Linda is an absolute legend — it’s worth visiting just to have a chat with her.
The Wharf at Quidi Vidi — A recent development that’s amazing. In summer the wharf opens to a beer garden and food trucks — a great place to meet friends for food and a drink and enjoy the sun (or fog) and the view.
Sugar Loaf Path — Part of the East Coast Trail. There’s something magical about walking down to the village on a foggy east-end day and wandering up the Sugar Loaf path to take in the view.
Quidi Vidi Charters — A local tour company offering sightseeing and fishing tours, leaving right from the harbour.
